Three-storey rear extension unifying two town houses

Embarking on this unusual project, we faced the distinctive challenge of unifying two townhouses, each burdened with unattractive and awkward rear extensions and differing floor levels - and all within the constraints of restrictive and conservation-sensitive requirements. With the objective being to harmoniously merge all three structures, we designed a three-storey rear extension that not only addressed these challenges but elevated the entire living experience.

The integration of new staircases and floor access neatly unified the rear projections where the two houses converged, transforming them into a single, flowing dwelling. Formerly considered unattractive, the revitalised and additional rear projections have breathed new life into the space, and offer a testament to our commitment to thoughtful design that marries form and function.

Navigating the intricate landscape of conservation requirements, our approach prioritised a keen sensitivity to ensure that our design not only complied with regulations but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding environment. The challenges posed by the project became opportunities for innovation and creativity, resulting in a solution that serves to balance conservation considerations with modern interior spaces.

By opening up the rear projections, this extension not only maximises space and fosters unity among the townhouses, addressing the practical aspects of differing floor levels, but also enhances the aesthetic allure of the entire property.

With an unwavering commitment to preserving the integrity of the existing structures, our attention to detail ensured that every element contributed to the overall cohesiveness of the development.
